Alan Schuster, 2/21/2008 Bye-Bye Pink Slime? I let the FC in my salt-water pool fall to 0.2 for about a day a couple weeks back which resulted in cloudy water. Using extra chlorine and blue clarifier, it cleared up nicely. Well now, about a week later I find this pink, slimy stuff. Well now Im an expert on that, too. Ive just set the chlorinator for 100% and plan to shock the living, holy $*#@ out of it. I think Im going to go for 10 ppm. Then let the sun bake it back down to 5 where Ill leave it for a few days. In the meantime the filter will be running non-stop. Ive got a pool party planned for 2 weeks from now, so I dont want to mess around. My research has indicated that a high chlorine dose is the best way to go, especially for someone who makes it, right in his pool. Anything that has been in the pool, such as my brush should also reside in there during the shocking. One other thing I found was to backwash the filter when its all said and done to get rid of the stuff and one person suggested changing the media. Early backwashing goes against what you and I have discussed as far as filtration quality is concerned, but in this case, I think I like the idea of sending that gunk down the line.

Use: a non-chlorine bleach that is safe for all fabrics. a lemon juice and salt solution for colored fabric. a mixture of 2 Tablespoons of chlorine bleach in one quart of water. Use hot water if it is safe for the fabric. Never use chlorine bleach on silk or wool, or a fabric that says “no chlorine bleach” on the label. dye the item a darker color if the stain remains. This may cover the stain so you can use the item. Bath tubs, shower stalls, tiled floors and bathroom walls often have mildew. Use a brush. Scrub with a mixture of 1/2 to 1 cup of chlorine bleach in 1 gallon of water. Wear water-proof gloves to protect your hands. An old toothbrush works well on grout. Soak plastic shower curtains in a solution of chlorine bleach and water. Then wash. Upholstery, mattresses and rugs should be cleaned using as little water as possible.

You can also find mold in air conditioning systems, face creams, basements, and anywhere you smell a musty odor. Many people think that if they just clean up the mold in their environment, then their work is done, but mold throws off the delicate balance of the body. And where you have a mold exposure, you have a Candida overgrowth. They go hand in hand. On the outside of the body, you can find mold or fungus on fingernails or toenails, thrush (tongue), and bumpy skin. If you have bumpy skin, you can kill the mold colonies with apple cider vinegar on a cotton swab. Unfortunately, most doctors receive very little training in mycology (the study of fungi and their effects) during medical school, often less than veterinarians. As a result, many common activities can be overlooked as the cause of a patients health problems. Worse, recent studies point to fungus being the precursor to cancer. Here are a few of the most common things that contribute to mold problems and Candida overgrowth Exposure to pesticides. Pesticides kill bugs, including the colony in your gut. You do not have to eat them to be exposed. Antibiotics. Used to kill disease-causing bacteria, antibiotics are very effective in killing normal, protective bacterial flora throughout the body. Swimming in chlorinated pools. Copper and Silver Anodes, Salt water, and Chlorine are used in swimming pools and Jacuzzis to kill bacteria and algae.

Does Bleach Kill Mold in Concrete? Certain strains of mold (mycotoxins) can be toxic to all humans, given sufficient exposure. Luckily, many household items will quickly kill mold and prevent its return–even on concrete. Other People Are Reading How to Remove Basement Mold Bleach and Mold The Environmental Protection Agency generally recommends a solution of warm water and soap fortified with a small amount of bleach (about a third cup of bleach for every gallon of water) to clean a mold colony. Bleach can be particularly useful for cleaning mold growth from concrete. The website All Things Concrete recommends diluting bleach with water, pouring directly onto concrete and after a few minutes rinsing off with a pressure washer or by hand. Preventative Measures Cleaning and removing a mold colony is only half the battle. Mold growth occurs because microscopic airborne mold spores drift through the air and happen to land in a moist environment; without moisture, the mold couldn’t grow. Therefore, after cleaning and removing the mold colony, it is advisable to apply a standard household disinfectant to the area where the mold grew. Most importantly, dry the entire area completely after cleaning and disinfecting. Mold Growth and Concrete One of the most common causes of mold growth in homes is the presence of extra moisture due to damaged or malfunctioning household appliances. Areas that typically use concrete in their construction, like basements and storm shelters, can be prone to mold growth due to a leaky ceiling, a damaged washing machine or a leak from the house’s plumbing system. These will need to be remedied and repaired to retard potential mold growth. Other Considerations When bleach is used for any household use, including cleaning concrete, it is important to aerate the room by opening a window or running a fan–or better yet, do both to exhaust bleach fumes and introduce fresh air into the room. If you use large amounts of bleach, consider using eye protection and gloves. Consult a doctor immediately if anyone in your home displays symptoms of mycotoxicosis, a condition caused by significant exposure to mycotoxin molds. Related Searches

Apple’s patent Figure 7 shown below illustrates a quaternary phase diagram illustrating a compositional range for forming a joint between a bulk-solidifying amorphous alloy material and a ductile material. Additionally Figure 7 illustrates a tetrahedral-plot approach for depicting the alloying composition range for a four component alloy system (A,B,C,D) wherein the alloy system includes, for example, an element B that is a principal component of the at least one metal or alloy of that metal that is used to form the ductile material. The alloy system (A,B,C,D) is known to be capable of achieving the amorphous state in at least some circumstances. In one process, a glassy alloy may be formed using a deeply undercooled glass forming liquid. In such a technique, the bulk-solidifying amorphous alloy and the ductile material are positioned adjacent one another in their respective positions, and then melted above Tm of the bulk-solidifying amorphous alloy, then quickly quenched to low temperature. Apple’s European patent application 2013165441 was published earlier this week and originally filed in Europe in Q2, 2012. A second European Liquidmetal related patent (2013165442) that was filed last week covered injection molds. Apple states that “When melting materials in an injection molding system, uniform temperatures in ranges appropriate to the meltable material should be implemented and maintained in order to produce quality molded parts. Maintaining meltable material within a melt zone during melting can improve quality.” Apple’s patent FIG. 8 noted above illustrates a schematic diagram of an exemplary system utilizing a single polarity to constrain material during melting. Patently Apple presents a detailed summary of patent applications with associated graphics for journalistic news purposes as each such patent application is revealed by the U.S. Patent & Trade Office. Readers are cautioned that the full text of any patent application should be read in its entirety for full and accurate details. Revelations found in patent applications shouldn’t be interpreted as rumor or fast-tracked according to rumor timetables.

How to Clean Mold in the Inground Pool? – Ask.com
. .Not surprisingly, then, each person seems to have his or her own way of cooking a hamboiled, steam-baked, fried with or without coffee grounds. Here’s how Mahaffey cooks her hams: First, remove any excess mold by scrubbing the ham with a bristle brush and a vinegar-and-water solution. Then soak the ham overnight in cold water in a cool place. (For hams more than one year old, soak for two nights, changing the water once.) Drain off the soaking water and fill the pot with new water to cover the ham. The ham should be floating in the water. Add 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar to the pot and bring to a rolling boil. Then turn the heat down so that the water just “breaks a bubble.” Cover and cook 15 to 20 minutes per pound. Turn off the heat, remove the lid from the pot, and let the ham cool in that water. (Be sure to remove the lid. If you don’t, you’ll have, according to Mahaffey, a “big pile of mush.”) After the ham has cooled, remove it, pat it dry, and trim off some of the skin while leaving some of the fat on. Mahaffey likes to serve her hams at room temperature sliced about 1/8 inch thick. . .
